Upon realizing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Micron made a conscious decision to honor every internship job offer we had extended, and we informed all our incoming interns of their placement before the end of March.
However, given the stay-at-home guidelines, we needed to develop a completely new, virtual internship experience. We viewed this as a unique opportunity to innovate, to use new ways of connecting the interns to our global community, and to give students the experience they’ve come to expect from Micron.
How will we do it? The students have been shipped the necessary hardware and equipment. And managers will provide real-world, meaningful projects — although remotely — to ensure the interns are engaged and learning.
The University Relations team is hosting daily virtual events focused on connecting the virtual intern community and providing information about Micron’s business structure, products and people. These events include technical training, executive town halls, career and professional development seminars, team happy hours, and more!
The virtual environment allows us to build on our partnerships with the top U.S. universities. For example, we have invited several professors with expertise in big data and memory to give our interns an overview of these technologies and the role Micron plays in enabling them.
Look for additional spotlights throughout the summer. We’ll be communicating about the specific components of our program and meaningful experiences we are creating for our interns!
