The award-winning paper and presentation, and the demonstration of GDDR6 as the primary high-bandwidth solution for the next decade, generated numerous customer requests to work with Micron.
GDDR5 is known as a leading DRAM interface for applications requiring high system bandwidth such as graphic cards, game consoles and high-performance computing systems. However, the requirements of new applications are driving the need for memory bandwidth higher and higher.
The paper Micron presented at DesignCon 2018 — which positioned GDDR6 as a lower-risk and more cost-effective high-bandwidth memory solution for the next decade —was honored as a DesignCon 2018 Best Paper for its outstanding contributions to DesignCon educational goals.
Papers are judged both on the merits of the written document as well as a compelling presentation of its content. The Best Paper award acknowledges the 18 engineering authors as leading practitioners in semiconductor and electronic design.
DesignCon Best Paper Award recipients are selected through a two-prong process. First, members of the DesignCon Technical Program Committee rank finalist papers based on quality, relevance, impact, originality, and commercial content — a notable achievement itself. Winners are then chosen based on the quality of the team’s presentation and audience feedback. The complete list of award winners and details of the selection process can be found here.
