Beyond developing some of the world’s most advanced memory and semiconductor technologies, Micron and the Micron Foundation are working towards developing the next generation of engineers.

This summer, Micron again teamed up with STEM Revolution to roll the unmistakable 60-foot STEM Bus Mobile Lab through the West Coast. The STEM Bus Mobile Lab logged more than 3,200 miles visiting cities in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona and Nevada, including our sites in Folsom and Milpitas, California. The unique, STEM-on-wheels experience opens the doors to students who may not have regular access to high-tech, hands-on STEM education.

At each stop, nearly 450 students had access to over 20 interactive exhibits with the latest and greatest technology; including robots, video game programming, virtual reality and circuitry. The bus stopped in a town for an entire day, allowing students and teachers to have a full day of exploring a world of possibilities in STEM. While one class was examining exhibits on the bus, another class experienced a STEM demonstration in their own classroom. Every class at a school saw both demonstrations during the day.

In total, the Micron-sponsored tour interacted with more than 3,700 children. A recent Stanford University study reported the STEM Bus reaching 40,000 students per year, with 75 percent of those students expressing interest in being more involved with STEM.

For the Micron Foundation, this opportunity was a natural fit. Knowing how impactful hands-on experiences are for students, the STEM Bus Mobile Lab is a dynamic way to spark curiosity in the next generation of STEM professionals. Micron also underwrites 50 school visits in Idaho each year.

The Micron Foundation invites other companies and foundations to consider sponsoring the STEM Bus Mobile programs as there are wait-lists each year. For more information, contact STEM Revolution.
